Roguelikes must be the ideal genre because it appears that you can mix them with any other genre and get something intriguing. Despot’s Game is a roguelike auto battler in which you assemble and control a horde of naked people that may be outfitted with everything from pretzels to fridges. You then utilize that army to traverse a dynamically created dungeon populated with creatures and, on rare occasions, other human players. The more you go, the more bizarre stuff you uncover to present to your warriors, but when you die, you lose all your progress and must over from the beginning. I enjoy roguelikes and Teamfight Tactics, therefore Despot’s Game appears to be a safe bet.
If you’re unfamiliar with auto battles like TFT, the concept is that you construct a squad of warriors that perform all of the combat for you without your direct involvement. The strategy is in what goods you give them and how you place them on the battlefield, but once the bell sounds and the combat begins, all you have to do is sit back and watch the carnage.
If all of that sounds interesting, you can watch the teaser above, which premiered during the Guerrilla Collective E3 2021 event. Despot’s Game may also be added to your Steam wishlist. It will be available later this year.
