At the Future Games Show in June, we got our first glimpse at the sleek shooter Severed Steel. It chronicles the extreme ballistic exploits of Steel, a one-armed assassin who compensates for her lack of limbs with great speed and agility and a lethal aim.
It’s a touch low on the story—you’re “an agile, one-armed sniper on a mission,” according to the Steam page—but the gunplay looks fantastic. If you’re interested, you’ll be able to try it out for yourself next week during a limited beta that runs from July 14 to July 21. The beta version will contain ten campaigns and ten arcade levels, as well as new mutators such as “floor is lava” and “dive through wall run,” as well as new adversaries. It will also include modifications based on feedback from the Steam Next Fest demo, such as HUD tweaks, movement speed adjustments, and weapon balance.
To apply for beta access, simply go to the Severed Steel Discord server. There are information and conversation channels accessible, but the welcome page will also lead you directly to the beta registration if that’s all you’re looking for. Unfortunately, there is no indication of how many people will be granted access to the test, but the week-long duration should ensure that everyone who signs up gets a chance.
Severed Steel is set to be released this summer.
